ASSIGNMENT QUESTION


This assignment requires you to observe the sky, then reflect on your understanding of the movement of the Earth and celestial bodies. Lastly discuss your understanding of the relationship between Earth and celestial bodies.

(You may use computer applications such as The Night Sky or Stellarium to help you in your observation.)

OBSERVE:

The night sky is very fascinating. Your assignment is to observe the night sky on one night for four hours. Choose a night that the sky is very 'visible'. On the night you are going to observe, go out as soon as it's dark to a location from which you can see at least a group of stars (constellation), the moon and/or a/some planets. Sketch the horizon. Carefully and accurately draw its size and orientation with respect to the meridian. You may use the diagram below to help you. Make sure you take note the orientation you face; North, South, East or West. Then, every other hour, go and observe the same objects in the sky from the same place and sketch it on the same diagram. Note the time of your observations so that your diagram will show how the position of the celestial objects changes over the course of a night. Your four observations should cover at least 4 hours, one quarter of the 24 hour day.

REFLECT:

Based on the observations you made, construct an explanation about how the celestial objects moves in the sky, seen from Earth.



DISCUSS:

Would the the night sky you observe be the same if you were to do the observation in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or a year later? Explain.

Tugasan ini memerlukan anda untuk memerhatikan langit, kemudian membuat refleksi pemahaman anda tentang pergerakan bumi dan objek samawi. Akhir sekali anda dikehendaki membincangkan pemahaman anda tentang hubungan di antara Bumi dan objek samawi.

(Anda boleh menggunakan aplikasi komputer seperti The Night Sky atau Stellarium untuk membantu anda dalam pemerhatian anda.)

PEMERHATIAN:

Langit malam adalah sangat menarik. Tugasan anda adalah untuk memerhatikan langit malam pada satu malam selama empat jam. Pilih malam yang bintang-bintang mudah 'dilihat'.
